The annual contest between the Wellington City Wolves and the Porirua Giants is about more sporstmanship than points.
It is about pride. It is about honour. It is about tradition.
The Vasaloloa Belford Memorial Trophy is American Football Wellington's first rivalry contest. The Porirua Giants and the Wellington City Wolves contest this trophy in the first game between the two clubs every season.
The Vasaloloa Belford Memorial Trophy was donated by Talia Belford in 2005 in honour of his late mother. Talia Belford has been a member of the two organisations as both a player and a coach.
2005/2006 - The inaugural contest saw the Wolves shut out the Porirua Giants and bring home the Vasaloloa Belford Memorial Trophy on behalf of their coach, Talia Belford, with a dominating win over the Giants 33-0.
2006/2007 - A much closer contest between the two teams, however the Wolves managed to stay on top with a 12-7 win against the Giants.
